Luscious Wools!

The designing bug has hit again and have a nice small quilt and pincushion ready for the Girls at Blackberry Primitives. They will be heading to market soon and it will be in their booth showing off their lovely wools! I'll show a picture of it when I can...can't wait to have show and tell and show you. I'm making a smaller version in a different color way also. Here's a sample of the wools they chose. They are so luscious!

Just what I need to get inspired...beautiful wools!

Well, today is the day for choosing the name for the winner of the pincushion pattern...and the winner is...

Ljeanne! Who answered my question of what type of quilting or handwork she likes to do.

"The pincushion pattern is lovely. I have done a few stitcheries, I think it's time to do a pincushion. I also quilt and knit."

Congratulations LJeanne! I'll get the pattern off to you as soon as I get your address. I hope you enjoy the little pincushion pattern! Thanks to Michelle May of the Raspberry Rabbits for coming up with this fun idea for our own little blog hop!

Take care and thanks so much for stopping by!

New Pattern! Woolie Welcome...

This is the first in a new series of small quilts I've been working on called Little Woolies! Woolie Welcome is 22" square and has cotton backgrounds and wool appliqué. The applique is so easy with wool! The stars, pineapples and sashing are all easy applique stitched on a basic machine pieced background. It's a quick little project and would be perfect for a table topper or a wall hanging!

I've also been playing with those wool garments again. I got my crock pot out again and did my best to fix some of the wools I dyed the first time I tried this. They were blotchy and colorful, but not quite what I was looking for. This time I used more packs of Kool-Ade for a deeper color. It worked great! The colors are a bit brighter in this picture, but I am really happy with them. I was told that this type of dying would wash out, but I found out it is permanent when I tried to wash some out...so I know it will be ok to use these in a project that may be washed in the future. I might try washing one more time with a piece of white fabric to see if it bleeds. So far I'm having fun! Will cook a little more wool today since I have a few more packets of that sweet smelling colored powder!
Now that's an odd picture, but I've put the wool away and don't have time to rearrange again for a new picture! It does show the colors pretty well though, so I'll leave it up for now!

Missie

Wools and Cottons...MMM Good!

Sometimes there isn't much better than wools and cottons. Looks luscious!

Can you believe these are cotton backgrounds? They look just like a man's suit or pants made from wool. The fat quarters I purchased are from the collection called Princeton from Northcott. Looks just like wool until you get up close. Feels a good as any other Northcott...like butter! Hee Hee!

This is my new Little Woolie I'm Workin' on. If it looks familiar, it's a take off from the Prim Pineapple Welcome Punchneedle mini quilt. A few stores have requested wool projects that look like the punched quilts. I love to appliqué with wool...it's soooo addicting because it's so simple!!

Take care,

Missie

Cute As Can Bee!

Thank goodness I finally felt well enough to get something done in the sewing room today! I've been coughing for about a MONTH and am finally kicking this bug. I have slept well for 3 whole nights and my energy is coming back! Good thing because I have a Christmas party to go to on Tuesday, so needed to get my gift done. I started this little Bee quilt last night and finished it up just now. It was fun to make and simple simple. Can't wait to give it to my Secret Pal! ( She does not follow my blog, so the secret is safe!) It turned out about 10" square. The center is punched of course...! This is the quilt group called "Rather Bees", short for "I'd Rather Be Quilting", now shortened to "Bees". This group started more than 25 years ago and most of us have a bit of a Bee collection!

Ginger is napping on this little rug like it's a pillow! I couldn't resist a pic next to this little quilt. She seems to be a little better, but still has much healing to do before she is back to normal. She even did a bit of playing today!
Have a wonderful week! Take care,

Missie

Little Quilts!

Good Afternoon!

I saw a post today about little quilts and at first I didn't think I had any...but as my mind got going, I remembered a few from the past. Here's a little show and tell for a dreary day! When you are finished looking at mine hop on over to Taryn's at Reproduction Quilt Lover to see more!

This one is from a dear friend Susie K. She gave it to me when I moved away from Ohio a few years ago. It stays out in my sewing room all the time!

These two are some I made probably 12-15 years ago. The blue one is from leftovers from a larger quilt. You might think this is The Twister which is popular now, but what was once new, then old gets redone by another designer over and over. This is from the book Square Dance from the mid nineties. I made a larger quilt and then made this 12" quilt from the scraps. It's a pretty cool book!

The tulip quilt is one I made after looking at a book with antique quilts. It was a fun quilt to make and won first place in the Ohio State Fair in the year 2000. I bring this one out in the springtime when things start to warm up!

This little Cake Stand Quilt was made in a class from Sally Collins. It was the first quilt I quilted with my new quilting machine. It is a tiny little thing about 8.5”x11”. I am very proud I finished it! All those little pieces!

These last two little quilts will be showing off pretty soon as the Christmas holiday approaches! The Cathedral Window quilt has little 1” squares that were framed by the red fabric. I loved making this quilt. I was amazed how the Cathedral Window block was made! I wish I had green in the under fabric to peak out and show off the frames in red. I don't think I could do this block today without finding a tutorial for it. I also made a Christmas ornament from Cathedral Windows. It's one of my faves!

The little wool felt quilt (although it is not actually a quilt) was a fun little project too! It was my first wool project and was very quick to make. I remember I finished it in one evening!

That's it for my little quilts for now...you've seen my little punched quilts I make now from previous posts! I've got another one in the works now! Do you have little tiny quilts too??

Have a great evening,

Missie
