THIS Is What It's All About!!

Do you ever get a little Ho Hum about sewing the same quilt a few times over? When I WANT to make the same quilt over and over, it's all good, but when I NEED to make a repeat, sometimes I do procrastinate a bit...

In the past few months, I have sold a few samples to stores and needed to make my own sample once again. I'm afraid I fibbed a bit when I posted that I have not been doing any sewing. I realized today, the truth is, I have not been able to make anything NEW lately. I have, however, been working on the samples mentioned...Punchneedle Mini Quilts. The one I needed to replace in my own stash is Little Brookshire Star. My goodness...when I started sewing these little squares together this morning, I did get so excited about it! And....THAT'S what it's all about!!! Getting excited about quilting, punching, stitching, etc! I'm so excited to finish this little quilt up...LOL, the day before I needed it done!

Little Brookshire Star...here she is...

12.5" in all of her glory...

Two afternoons to punch and stitch, an hour to cut strips for squares, and an hour to sew the squares together! Voila'...a sweet little mini for me to enjoy once again! I love the colors and the work that looks difficult. We all know the secret that Punchneedle, lazy daisy stitch and squares are so easy to do! If you are interested, you can have one too by clicking HERE to purchase the pattern at my store! I would LOVE to hear what YOU are excited about stitching on today! Thanks for stopping by!

Take care,

Missie

Wall Of Little Quilts!

Oh! What fun it was to put up these little quilts! It was not as hard as I thought it would be. They sat there waiting for me to hang them for weeks! I finally jumped in and started last night. It only took about 10 minutes! What was I scared of?!?

These quilts will be on the far end of my quilting/sewing room, which is half of the open basement! I am a lucky gal and am so thankful to be able to spread out for sewing. This wall is just past the quilting frame, which you can see just a bit at the bottom of the picture.

Since adding the quilt frame to my sewing room, it's a huge mess down there! The problem is that when I rearranged, things came out from under the tables that we re against the walls. I am still looking for storage solutions. Having these all hung up will help me to finish and get organized! Straight pins were used to barely tack them to the wall. I will be getting some Command Strips and use the hook tape and put that on the wall under each quilt. The hook tape will grab to the fabric fibers and hold them up! I know this works because The Rabbit's Lair used this hanging method when my quilts were there on display! It was amazing! Taking them up and down should be very easy when I vend and need to take some of these quilts along.

Some of these are from the late 80's, some are from the mid 90's, some from the early 2000’s ( Do we call that the turn of the century? The Millenium?) and some you will recognize from my past posts! I may switch them up a bit once I get the command strips on the wall. The bottom edge is a bit uneven and I need to decide if all edges should be uneven or if I leave it as is for the most part. We'll see what I end up with!

For now, they are out of the way and getting me a bit inspired to keep organizing! And, they are off of the frame so I can get my quilting machine set up this week! Yeah!

Take care and thanks once more to all of you who made a purchase during the Cyber Special!

New Pattern, Aged Glory...

And to finish what I showed you yesterday, here is one of my new patterns, called Aged Glory.
This is a small wool and cotton quilt, 22" square. It has a cotton background and wool stars. (The picture isn't too good because I forgot my good camera at my daughter's house! )
I stained my homespun cotton background to give it that old look...nice and aged looking.
This quilt is quick and easy to make!  Thanks!
Take care,
Missie

Summer Starburst Punchneedle Mini

It's soooo cold here in Des Moines I am thinkin' summer to warm up! We had -20* windchill today! Brrr! So I thought I'd share my latest mini punched quilt with you since it has Summer in it's name. This one isn't really a quilt I guess, because it is not quilted. It has a wool border giving it a more prim look. I'm real happy with it, loving the colors and cheerfulness they bring on a cold winter day. This pic is nice and bright, but the real deal is a bit less bright when you see it in person. Even though Summer is in the name this little quilt would be great for all year long. It would pass for spring with an Easter bunny sitting on it, for summer next to a basket of flowers, for fall with the warm brown accents and even on a cold winter day like today with the blue that reminds us of a winter quilt. I'm sure this one will stay out all year long at my house. I have missed displaying blues in my home and was happy to find these beautiful blue wools along with the other pretty colors from Blackberry Primitives.
It measures 12" square just like the others. The Valdani 12 pearl cotton, always colorfast, is great for a prim look, imitating a mini wool rug. You can buy this pattern from my Traditional Primitives HERE if you like it! It's a unique way to show off your punched project! You will also find the punch needle and hoop on the website if you are in need. I will be making a Valdani Thread order early next week if anyone needs any of these beautiful threads. Please let me know if I can help you with an order!
On another note, it's Super Bowl Weekend! Who's going to a quilt store sale to celebrate?!? What better reason to shop than a football game, right ladies? I will be supporting some local stores at their sales before the big game. If you do some shopping and you're a blogger, be sure to show us your stash!
Have a great weekend, Stay warm and Take Care,
Missie

Wools and Cottons...MMM Good!

Sometimes there isn't much better than wools and cottons. Looks luscious!

Can you believe these are cotton backgrounds? They look just like a man's suit or pants made from wool. The fat quarters I purchased are from the collection called Princeton from Northcott. Looks just like wool until you get up close. Feels a good as any other Northcott...like butter! Hee Hee!

This is my new Little Woolie I'm Workin' on. If it looks familiar, it's a take off from the Prim Pineapple Welcome Punchneedle mini quilt. A few stores have requested wool projects that look like the punched quilts. I love to appliqué with wool...it's soooo addicting because it's so simple!!

Take care,

Missie

Cute As Can Bee!

Thank goodness I finally felt well enough to get something done in the sewing room today! I've been coughing for about a MONTH and am finally kicking this bug. I have slept well for 3 whole nights and my energy is coming back! Good thing because I have a Christmas party to go to on Tuesday, so needed to get my gift done. I started this little Bee quilt last night and finished it up just now. It was fun to make and simple simple. Can't wait to give it to my Secret Pal! ( She does not follow my blog, so the secret is safe!) It turned out about 10" square. The center is punched of course...! This is the quilt group called "Rather Bees", short for "I'd Rather Be Quilting", now shortened to "Bees". This group started more than 25 years ago and most of us have a bit of a Bee collection!

Ginger is napping on this little rug like it's a pillow! I couldn't resist a pic next to this little quilt. She seems to be a little better, but still has much healing to do before she is back to normal. She even did a bit of playing today!
Have a wonderful week! Take care,

Missie

Quick Little Finish!

Punched, embroidered, quilted and bound! Quick little Mini Punchneedle Quilt! Now it's off to the darling store in Omaha, More Sew For You. They will be carrying the pattern for this little quilt, Primitive Pineapple Welcome. If you are ever in the area it is well worth stopping to shop this store. They had a great selection of beautiful fabrics and cool notions, lovely displays and very nice employees!

It is punched and embroidered with Valdani 3 strand and size 12 pearl cotton. The border has wool appliqué and it was so fun to make another one. I will need to get busy on more quilts in this series!

But first, I will prepare some Dear Jane so I can take them with me to sewing groups! Yeah!

Take care,

Missie

A Warm Welcome...

My small quilt for this year, A Warm Welcome, is coming right along! I figured out how I wanted to finish it, so got the little border on and now it's ready for quilting! It is a very simple border. I will show you how finishing the edges will work in a few days when the quilting is done...

I may decide to do this as the inner portion of a larger quilt...this would be a nice medallion center...hmmm, interesting thought! This one needs to be finished though, so a larger quilt will come later!  Come back soon for the finishing process..

Take care,

Missie

Think Christmas!! It's Time!

I can't help but to Think Christmas now that the Think Christmas Blog Hop is in full swing! What great ideas have been posted to get us ready for decorating early this year! No excuses not to make a new Christmas Project, except for the fact that so many cute ideas have been brought to our attention! Which ones will everyone choose to make?

Here is my 12.5" block which I made into a little quilt to hang from my wire hanger. I am calling it The Partridge and The Pears...pretty plain and simple, just like primitives styled quilts. The primitive stitches are done with a normal invisible appliqué stitch, but I have used a deeper bite and pearl cotton so that it shows in primitive style. Look closely at the stitches around the pears below to see how it looks!

I saw this stitch recently, but can NOT find the email newsletter it came from! If any of you know of someone else promoting this type of primitive stitch, please let me know as I would love to give that smart girl credit for this cute primitive look!

For the quilting of this little quilt, I decided to keep it primitive and used pearl cotton size 12, with easy big stitches. I outlined the shapes about 1/8" around, then did echo quilting in 1/2" increments around the shapes. You can see that I quilted with tan, green and gold pearl cotton.. When I quilt with pearl cotton, I like to use the Fons & Porter Hand Wool Appliqué Needles, size 2. These glide through the fabric with this thick thread very easily.

Everyone can be a winner here for my give away! If you like my little quilt and would like to make one for yourself, please do these few things...visit my website Traditional Primitives HERE , and send me a comment From the guest book at the site after checking it out! Let me know which pattern or picture you like the best! Then, leave a comment on this blog REQUESTING The Partridge and The Pears pattern if you want it and make sure you are a follower of my blog. Be sure you are listed as a follower who can recieve email and I will email you a PDF file containing the pattern. I'd love to spread the Christmas Joy that comes with the season. You have until August 11 to leave your comments!

Primitive Pinapple Welcome...A little treasure...

It's a good day today! I finished up two projects! Yes...they are mighty small, but it still feels good to finish up something that has a deadline! The little quilt pictured above is called A Little Warm Welcome. The colors are cozy and warm, rich and golden. You've seen the center in the works from previous posts, done in punchneedle embroidery. The border stars, twigs and larger sized leaves are wool and the berries and small leaves are embroidered. This quilt is 12" x 12" and fits on my little wire hanger perfectly! The pattern is available on my HERE if you like it!

If you have not tried Punchneedle, give it a try...it's very easy and quick and the reward is fast! You will be amazed how quickly you can see your progression. Because you can see such great detail so quickly, it really keeps you wanting to work on it. I love to put the punchneedle pieces in small quilts. There will be another one coming soon!

The other project I finished today is my project for the Think Christmas Blog Hop!! My day to present is Saturday, August 4th, so come back to see me then!! Lesley at The Cuddle Quilter is the Hostess and you can see all the participants listed on her blog.

See you Saturday...be sure to have your cuppa coffee in hand as you Think Christmas!

Take care,

Missie

My House on the Hill

Just finished up revamping My House on the Hill in Valdani pearl cotton 12! This is a mini quilt, 12" square. These are so fun to lay around the house or hang on the wire hangers that are so popular now. I have several different little quilts hanging out of baskets and laid out on coffee tables. So nice to finish up another project! This pattern is available at Traditional Primitives HERE if you are interested!
Take Care,

Missie
