What Stitch Color Do You Prefer??

Good Day! I am finally working on my Little Woolie again and swear I will finish it today!!! Haha! So why am I blogging right now! I want to know what color of wool stitching you like to use when you appliqué wool, that's why! :-)

As I have worked on the Little Woolie quilt, I chose to use thread that matched the fabric. The further I get into the project, I wish I had chosen a contrasting thread. The pincushion has contrasting variegated Valdani thread that shows in some spots and blends in some spots where red falls on red.

When I made In the Orange Grove I matched every color! It was lots of work, but it was fun to stitch, so I didn't mind! I think for my next Little Woolie I will try to contrast the thread color with the wool color. Which way do you prefer to stitch your wool? Matching or contrasting color??

The coordinating pin cushions shown HERE went to some new friends the other day. I had Julie of Me and My Stitches and Carolyn of Lee Prairie Designs over this week and we had a fun day of chatting, eating and shopping! It was the best day! If you'd like the pattern for this little pincushion above, please let me know and I'd be happy to send you the PDF for it. Be sure you have reply allowed in your profile so I can reach you!

Last, but not least, don't forget to check the last post for a chance to win a few fat quarters! I'll close that drawing on Sunday afternoon...

Take care,

Missie

  1. On some I use matching and on others, I go with black since it stands out and makes the piece more prim.
I do love the contrasts with threads and if it is variegated it makes a nice effect.

  2. For me, it depends on the project as to whether I like matching or contrasting. I definitely love Valdani and the variegated is really nice no matter how you use it!

  3. When I first started wool applique, I would use black perle cotton. Now I tend to prefer that it match. When I occassionally want a little contrast and more of a prim look I use Aurifil brown wool blend thread. I love your pineapple/star quilt!

  5. It depends, if it's whimsical, I like variegated thresds with 1" color changes, especailly on the smaller applique pieces, a more formal look and then I'll match, more folk/relaxed, contrasting or a different value of the same color. Hahaha, I'm of no help!

  6. Most of the time, I like my stitches to show since I go to all that trouble blanket stitching.

  9. I think the contrasting thread is adorable. It seems to match the woolie feel more than the invisible look. Happy stitching.

  10. I have never done wool work before, but I love the look of the contrasting threads so you can see your stitching. Thanks for linking up to Slow Sunday Stitching!

  11. I tend to shy away from applique of any type but I do like embroidery and love variegated threads. But depending on the project sometimes the variegation doesn't show.

Also, I think when the thread contrasts...like your blanket stitch...it looks more "folksy".

This is a first time visit...picked up your link from Slow Stitching Sunday. I like what I see!

  12. Lovely projects all! I've only done a few little wool projects but this is tempting me to do more. I love variegated thread so that is probably they way I'd go.

  13. It depends on what I am working on. Sometimes I like the same color thread, sometimes contrasting. I do like the Valdani to stitch wool down too. The variegation is fun.
