What a Fun Few Days!!

Swaps are so fun out here in Blogland! You never know what you might get in the mail to make your day full of sunshine! I joined in on Terry's Treasures PIF=Pay It Forward fun and she sent me a little goodie which arrived last Friday. I didn't know when this little goodie would arrive so I was quite surprised when I opened the mysterious padded envelope last week! Look at this darling little quilt along with some floss and a cute fat quarter! The springy flowered card is just what I needed on the cold and blustery day we had last Friday! I'll be sure to enjoy this cute little Twister quilt up through St. patty's Day and on into Spring!

Thank you so much Terry!

Soooo, part of the Pay It Forward is that when I get something fun I get to pay it forward to 3 others who want to play along too! You have to promise to Pay It Forward to 3 others and post about it on your blog. You will have a year to pay it Forward. I will do my best to do it sooner than later so I don't forget!! Leave a comment to let me know if you want me to PIF to you! If I have more than 3 by Friday, I will draw names.

Another fun Swap I joined in on was a Pinkeep Swap with Wendy of Ravenwood Whimzies. It was another fun day when the mail came on Monday! Once again, I wasn't quite expecting it just yet and it was such a surprise to open the box to find a darling pin keep! He's such a cute little Pinpuss as his tag says...how cute is that pincushion!! She also sent a cute card, some little prim Easter tags and some candy! Such fun. I sent hers last week so she should be posting it soon so check it out! She has really gotten some darling pin keeps.

A while back, I got this from Julierose of julierosequilts blog. She was kind enough to send me this cute funny pattern and these reproduction fabrics as a thank you for me sending her a start of my clematis that I posted about! We are crossing our fingers it will become green and grow well this spring!

Swaps are such fun and it's another excuse to get to know another blogger! If you see a swap or a see a reason to swap, be sure to join in on the fun! It's great to make someone's day a little brighter and sure is great to have your own day brightened too!

Take care Friends,

Missie

Wools and Cottons...MMM Good!

Sometimes there isn't much better than wools and cottons. Looks luscious!

Can you believe these are cotton backgrounds? They look just like a man's suit or pants made from wool. The fat quarters I purchased are from the collection called Princeton from Northcott. Looks just like wool until you get up close. Feels a good as any other Northcott...like butter! Hee Hee!

This is my new Little Woolie I'm Workin' on. If it looks familiar, it's a take off from the Prim Pineapple Welcome Punchneedle mini quilt. A few stores have requested wool projects that look like the punched quilts. I love to appliqué with wool...it's soooo addicting because it's so simple!!

Take care,

Missie

Cute As Can Bee!

Thank goodness I finally felt well enough to get something done in the sewing room today! I've been coughing for about a MONTH and am finally kicking this bug. I have slept well for 3 whole nights and my energy is coming back! Good thing because I have a Christmas party to go to on Tuesday, so needed to get my gift done. I started this little Bee quilt last night and finished it up just now. It was fun to make and simple simple. Can't wait to give it to my Secret Pal! ( She does not follow my blog, so the secret is safe!) It turned out about 10" square. The center is punched of course...! This is the quilt group called "Rather Bees", short for "I'd Rather Be Quilting", now shortened to "Bees". This group started more than 25 years ago and most of us have a bit of a Bee collection!

Ginger is napping on this little rug like it's a pillow! I couldn't resist a pic next to this little quilt. She seems to be a little better, but still has much healing to do before she is back to normal. She even did a bit of playing today!
Have a wonderful week! Take care,

Missie

Quick Little Finish!

Punched, embroidered, quilted and bound! Quick little Mini Punchneedle Quilt! Now it's off to the darling store in Omaha, More Sew For You. They will be carrying the pattern for this little quilt, Primitive Pineapple Welcome. If you are ever in the area it is well worth stopping to shop this store. They had a great selection of beautiful fabrics and cool notions, lovely displays and very nice employees!

It is punched and embroidered with Valdani 3 strand and size 12 pearl cotton. The border has wool appliqué and it was so fun to make another one. I will need to get busy on more quilts in this series!

But first, I will prepare some Dear Jane so I can take them with me to sewing groups! Yeah!

Take care,

Missie

Think Christmas!! It's Time!

I can't help but to Think Christmas now that the Think Christmas Blog Hop is in full swing! What great ideas have been posted to get us ready for decorating early this year! No excuses not to make a new Christmas Project, except for the fact that so many cute ideas have been brought to our attention! Which ones will everyone choose to make?

Here is my 12.5" block which I made into a little quilt to hang from my wire hanger. I am calling it The Partridge and The Pears...pretty plain and simple, just like primitives styled quilts. The primitive stitches are done with a normal invisible appliqué stitch, but I have used a deeper bite and pearl cotton so that it shows in primitive style. Look closely at the stitches around the pears below to see how it looks!

I saw this stitch recently, but can NOT find the email newsletter it came from! If any of you know of someone else promoting this type of primitive stitch, please let me know as I would love to give that smart girl credit for this cute primitive look!

For the quilting of this little quilt, I decided to keep it primitive and used pearl cotton size 12, with easy big stitches. I outlined the shapes about 1/8" around, then did echo quilting in 1/2" increments around the shapes. You can see that I quilted with tan, green and gold pearl cotton.. When I quilt with pearl cotton, I like to use the Fons & Porter Hand Wool Appliqué Needles, size 2. These glide through the fabric with this thick thread very easily.

Everyone can be a winner here for my give away! If you like my little quilt and would like to make one for yourself, please do these few things...visit my website Traditional Primitives HERE , and send me a comment From the guest book at the site after checking it out! Let me know which pattern or picture you like the best! Then, leave a comment on this blog REQUESTING The Partridge and The Pears pattern if you want it and make sure you are a follower of my blog. Be sure you are listed as a follower who can recieve email and I will email you a PDF file containing the pattern. I'd love to spread the Christmas Joy that comes with the season. Primitive Pinapple Welcome...A little treasure...

It's a good day today! I finished up two projects! Yes...they are mighty small, but it still feels good to finish up something that has a deadline! The little quilt pictured above is called A Little Warm Welcome. The colors are cozy and warm, rich and golden. You've seen the center in the works from previous posts, done in punchneedle embroidery. The border stars, twigs and larger sized leaves are wool and the berries and small leaves are embroidered. This quilt is 12" x 12" and fits on my little wire hanger perfectly! The pattern is available on my HERE if you like it!

If you have not tried Punchneedle, give it a try...it's very easy and quick and the reward is fast! You will be amazed how quickly you can see your progression. Because you can see such great detail so quickly, it really keeps you wanting to work on it. I love to put the punchneedle pieces in small quilts. There will be another one coming soon!

The other project I finished today is my project for the Think Christmas Blog Hop!! My day to present is Saturday, August 4th, so come back to see me then!! Lesley at The Cuddle Quilter is the Hostess and you can see all the participants listed on her blog.

See you Saturday...be sure to have your cuppa coffee in hand as you Think Christmas!

Take care,

Missie

My House on the Hill

Just finished up revamping My House on the Hill in Valdani pearl cotton 12! This is a mini quilt, 12" square. These are so fun to lay around the house or hang on the wire hangers that are so popular now. I have several different little quilts hanging out of baskets and laid out on coffee tables. So nice to finish up another project! This pattern is available at Traditional Primitives HERE if you are interested!
Take Care,

Missie
