It's a Beautiful Day! Give Away Reminder!!

Good Day! It's a Beautiful Day outside today...I hope I have the umph to get my gardening done early and then head down were it is cool in my sewing room this afternoon. I have been planning a few new pin cushions for an EPP workshop in the future...

And getting ready for my little Roadtrip to Chicago for the Quilt Festival next week! Is anyone out there going to Chicago for the show? I'd love to meet up if so!

The week after that, I'll be vending in Columbus, OH at the NQA Show. So next week I'll be gathering everything but the kitchen sink to take along. I have to make room for two daughters to make the trip with me. I sure hope we fit!

Today I plan on cutting those 100 - 5" squares to celebrate my 100th post ! If you have not done so already Please leave a comment on the last post, about the giveaway, and sign up to be a part of the fun! I'd like to have all of my followers join in...even those who follow by email... You can leave a comment also! Be sure to tell me which post you've enjoyed the most from the past year. If you share my like about the APQ radio interview with Pat Sloan, you get an extra chance!

Have a great day!

Take care,

Missie

100th Post! Give Away to Celebrate!!

Wow! I can't believe I have posted a hundred posts to this blog...it's been a fun year and it's been so nice to "meet" all of you! Our paths would not have crossed had it not been for this wonderful world of blogging. I am so thankful to be enjoying this little journey with you all! To celebrate, let's have a give away! What better to have as a gift for a 100th Party, than 100 - 5" pieces of fabric! That's right! Time to take a chance to see if you can win a collection of 100 - 5" blocks from my stash!

I'll start with these and move on to more of my favorite fabrics to share until I get to 100 pieces! And, I'll probably add in a little something extra! To be eligible to win, please tell me which post has been your favorite since the beginning of this blog and why you liked it. Also, I'd like you to be a follower (you can even be a new follower!) and enjoy following and commenting on my blog! I'll keep this open for a week and then we'll do the drawing from everyone who's commented.

Be sure you give me your email address if you are a no reply blogger...the last drawing I had, this happened! You can also change your settings so you can get emails.

This reminds me that I never chose a second place winner last time, so I will draw again now....and the New Winner Is....Gayle! This was a drawing for my pattern, Sunflower Pincushion. I know Gayle likes wool, so maybe she will make the wool version and show us sometime soon! Congrats Gayle! She has a great blog called , The Middle Sister.

Be sure to sign up to win the current give away and please spread the news about the interview I have today at 3:00 central time with Pat Sloan by sharing the link in the last post or the button in my sidebar! If you share the link on your blog at any time through the week, I will give you an extra chance to win the drawing. American Patchwork & Quilting saves these interviews as a recording so folks can listen for a while after the interview!

Thanks for stopping in today and come back soon,

Take care,

Missie

Mother Nature...I Think You Are Confused!!!

We woke up to about an inch of wet slushy sleet and snow this morning! Mother Nature, don't you realize that it is May 2nd today?!?!? You can see my iris are well up. The hosta just poked their heads out about 3" in the last few days. The strawberries are growing, along with the flax and many other perennials. I think they will be a bit confused with this cold day in the mix today! I hope my crabapple tree blooms will not be stung!
My projects for market are complete and on their way to those who will be showing them in Portland. Pattern Peddlers will be showing a few of my patterns that they carry in stock and I've designed another quilt for Blackberry Primitives Wool. I can't wait to show you this new one! It will have to stay a secret until market begins... You can see my design from last year, Charmed Beginnings by clicking on the company name above. They are such sweet gals and they are so fun to work with!
Since the new design is complete now, I am safe to proceed onto other things that need to be done. As you know if you read my last post or so, I am headed to Omaha next weekend to vend and show my quilts during the Quilted Crow Girls Retreat that More Sew For You is hosting! It recently dawned on me that two of my most favorite quilts will be away at market during this time so I decided I'd try to whip up some duplicates to show in Omaha. Click on the store name above to find out information about joining the workshop. I understand classes are just about filled! If you are nearby, don't miss this opportunity to experience these fun ladies in person!! The quilts I will be making this week are Brookshire Star and A Warm Welcome, which you can purchase HERE on my wesite if you are interested. Work along with me! :-)

It was fun to dig into my plaids and traditional fabrics for a change! I've worked with Civil War Fabrics and wool so often recently , I felt like I had all new fabrics as I was looking for a selection that will work! Some of these you see are new, some are Civil War and some are my old favorites!
Isn't it great to have a STASH to go to when you need it! I hope I make a little dent in my stash with this project, but between you and me...I doubt that I will !! Let's just keep that between ourselves ok!!

Many of you have asked about the stitch I learned in the Pat Sloan Workshop last week. We worked on a good shape for appliqué class, the heart. She uses the running stitch for her appliqué stitch. It is a great stitch for a change of pace compared to the needleturn that I normally use.

The shapes in her patterns are large and simple which makes this stitch a great one to use! You can see above that the shapes keep their shape with this stitch.

I hope you can zoom in and see the little running stitch in this picture. It looked especially nice in her samples with a contrasting thread! It was a great class and as I said before, she has such a fun, sweet personality! I was so excited when she contacted me a few days after the class and asked if I would be a guest on her radio show!!
June 10, 2013!
I am thrilled and honored to get to experience this interview with her! If you have not listened to these interviews yet, it's time to give it a try! It's great to have them on while you are doing things around the house. Makes the time pass quickly when doing chores and it's very good to have it turned on while you are sewing. It's very interesting to hear how designers and other folks in the industry get those great items out there for us quilters. Give it a try! You will like it! Put June 10th on your calendar for my interview please!

It was a great workshop with Pat Sloan and the next one is coming Fast!

The workshop with Pat Sloan was really great! She is such a fun, genuine person. We heard lots of fun stories and learned lots of great info! It's so fun when you take a class from a professional...they always teach us little tidbits that are helpful to know! She taught us all about different threads, needles, and a darling appliqué stitch I'd never seen before. It was a quick and easy way to do some appliqué, plus a bit artistic with the contrasting thread. Great fun! Here's a bit of show and tell from the day!

If you ever have a chance be sure to take a workshop from Pat. You will learn so much and enjoy yourself!

It won't be long until the event with the store in Omaha gets here! If any of you live nearby, be sure to check out www.moresewforyou.com and see the details about the workshops available from The Quilted Crow Girls! The classes are just about full! I am so flattered to get to meet them and introduce my designs to the area by vending in the back of the room....fun fun! Can't wait to see what I learn from these fun ladies!

Take care,

Missie
